Kyle,
Can you post prices and product numbers here in the near future? I would be interested in the specifics. Looks like a great budget.

I just got the following e-mail back from Bob K5GNA:
quote: Wadhah, For and extra $20.00, I supply the accessories for the downconverter with a power inserter, a 3' jumper F to F jumper to go from the radio to the power inserter and a 12' jumper to go to the downconverter and corner reflector. I supply an F to BNC Male connector on one end of the jumper and a 6 dB attenuator on it for protection. This gives you 15' to connect the downconverter. I can supply a 25' section also, if needed. The downconverter and all accessories use F connectors -- so only the one F female to BNC male is needed. Downconverter with 2 Meter IF and dipole $105.00 Corner Reflector with downconverter $20.00 Accessories -- power inserter, cables, etc. $20.00 Shipping in the USA $12.00 Total $157.00 I accept PayPal and BidPay at this Email address. I accept US checks and Money Orders. Please allow 10 - 14 days after receipt of order to ship, since I travel a lot now. Bob Seydler 8522 Rebawood Humble, Texas 77346-1789 (281) 682-1616 Bob
Sounds like a good deal to me. Now I just need to add on the power source. Although we can probably go as cheap as $30 for a gelcell/lead acid battery, here's a nice package setup for a portable battery for low-power devices like HT and downconverter: http://www.batteriesamerica.com/bp-1270_power_kit.htm . $69.95 plus $7 shipping for a total of $76.95, bringing the grand total for the 2.4GHz Satellite Downlink System of Goodness to $233.95.
This battery package would be perfect to power our Icom W32A HT with for emergency purposes and such (and during the mode V/U satellites passes, or even find some sort of Y-splitter for cigarette lighter power connectors?). Cigarette cord for the W32A costs $27.95 (man these accessories are highway robbery!).
If we're going to spend $80 on a charger, we might as well go the extra mile for an extra $10 and get Maha's MH-C777PLUS-II Universal LCD Charger / Analyzer / Conditioner; the king of all chargers (and will recondition batteries that are starting to lose some of their juice). And since it's universal, any TARA club member can take advantage of its features and charge their own HT on this unit, and we can charge any future HTs purchased for the TARA club. So this investment will go a long way.
Here's a new total for the Icom W32A Accessories of Happiness:
MFJ Deluxe Headset: $25 Maha 9.6VDC 650mAH Battery: $64.95 Maha MH-C777PLUS-II Charger: $86.95 W32A Cigarette Filter: $27.95 Shipping: $10 (Universal Radio) Total: $214.85
There's nothing like spending money!

| Don't go cheap, we might as well get the best equipment we have that serves our needs. Just balance that with not going overboard. |

I agree, Kyle. That's why I decided it made more sense to go with a nice universal charger than get stuck with an almost-as-expensive charger that only works for the W32A.
And I didn't count the costs of other items on the list that were not related to either the satellite or W32A accessories. I think you listed some items in a prior e-mail about the MFJ clock and such. Was that budgeted for the Summer semester? I can't remember. If not, then add that, a trickle charger for the shack (I'm guessing around $30?), and the operating costs.
Also, bump up my satellite estimate to $250. I forgot that we need a way to hook up power from the portable battery pack to the power inserter for the downconverter, and maybe buy a splitter for cigarette connectors to be able to hookup both the HT and downconverter. And call the W32A accessories goot at $220.
Terry's already purchased the battery stuff for our cross-band repeater. He'll give us receipts when he brings the whole system back today.

Terry gave me receipts for the battery stuff yesterday. Here's the total for that:
Deep cycle battery & battery box: $73.90 Battery charger: $53.61 Total: $127.51
Kyle: do we have enough funds for me to go ahead and get these receipts submitted for reimbursement?

No, likely not. We need to budget for it in this term...first round is due Friday, I'd like to have it in by then. Could you please email a detailed report of what all we've discussed to purchase this term and I'll get it in the form, also, we need to finish off our signatures this week.
